KAMMER JR, PODKUL DOMINATE
2004 DOUBLES CHAMPIONSHIP

| Final Results | Championship Standings |

Bob Kammer Jr and Chuck PodkulBob Kammer Jr, the IAA's most prolific bowler the last three seasons, teamed with Chuck Podkul to capture the eighth annual IAA Baker Doubles Championship. The tandem defeated Tom Lewandowski and Ken Anderson in the 2-game championship match 450 - 405. For Kammer Jr, this marks his fifth IAA title, including his third doubles title, while Podkul enters the championship circle for the first time.

The tandem dominated qualifying with a 1,347 6-game total on the uncharacteristicly difficult house conditions presented by Hebron Lanes. Kammer - Podkul started slowly with games of 200 and 204, before turning the heat up on the field with games of 248, 269, and 237, finally closing qualifying with a 189, outdistancing Lewandowski - Anderson's 1,331 total. Qualifying in third position with a 1,308 total was Lou Vauter and Ed Furfaro, while John Cleve and Greg Kolisz maintained their composure during a difficult sixth game to finish fourth at 1,307. Shaun Doyle and Jason McNieley used a strong 257 final game to jump from 10th to 5th with a 1,304 total. Scott Hansen and Brett Carter surged into the sixth position from the 22nd spot with closing games of 279 and 212 for a 1,297 total, sneaking by both Rich Sako and Steve Jakima (1,293) and Rick Woloszyn and Bill Winter (1,288).

Match play began with Hansen - Carter upending Vauter - Furtaro by a margin of 207 - 193, while Cleve - Kolisz cruised by Doyle - McNieley 232-210. The semi-final round was highlighted by an electrifying finish to the Cleve-Kolisz, Kammer Jr - Podkul match. Cleve and Kolisz finished with a flurry of four strikes forcing the talented Kammer Jr to mark in the tenth with solid count. Kammer Jr was errant with his first shot leaving a 3-10 split, which, he successfully converted. Needing 9 pins for the win, Kammer's shot grabbed the lane early and ran high into the pocket, tripping out the nine pin, leaving only the four pin for a 193-192 victory. The other semi-final came down to the final shots with Tom Lewandowski striking out in the tenth to secure a 194 - 189 victory.

The event held at Hebron Lanes attracked 32 teams. Kammer - Podkul won $1,300 on the day as a result of their tournament victory, Grand Bracket Victory, and numerous wins in the side-brackets. Lewandowski and Anderson collected $260 for their second-place finish. Scott Hansen and Brett Carter fashioned the tournament's high game, a nifty 279. Ron Stafford and Jim Rutherford, despite finishing in 19th place, managed to garner second place in the Grand Bracket worth $200. Other Gran Bracket cashers were Rick Woloszyn - Bill Winter, John Cleve - Greg Kolisz, and Bill Springer - Keith Putorek.
