BETTS CROWNED IAA MASTERS CHAMPION

Keith Betts conquered Ed Olszewski 238 - 181 and 211 - 182 in the two game championship match to claim top honors in the 2000 Masters Invitational featuring the IAA's top 24 average bowlers from the 1999-2000 season. The event held at Plaza Lanes separated the bowlers into three groups of eight with each bowler competing in 7 games of match-play competition.

Joining Betts (1,761) and Olszweski (1,674) in the championship round were Bill Springer (1,658), Jerry Michalak Jr (1,718), Jerry Michalak Sr (1,692), and Butch Bodnar (1,656). Michalak Sr prevailed in the first match with a stunning 248-247 come-from-behind victory against Michalak Jr and Bodnar (192). As Sandy Michalak emphasized to the spectators, "No matter how old and big, a father can still give his son a good ole spanking." Michalak then advanced to the semi-finals where he was defeated by Betts 246 - 235. Olszewski defeated Springer in the other semi-final 237 - 224.

Betts qualifying average of 251.5 set a new tournament standard. This also marks Betts' second individual IAA bowling title and third overall championship.

Olszewski shared high game honors with John Cleve, both rolling 279's. Betts (277), Bob Kammer Jr (274), and Rick Woloszyn (267) also recorded big games.
