CLEVE - NICKSIC TOPPLE HANSEN - WLEKINSKI
CAPTURE IAA DOUBLES TITLE

John Cleve and Dirk Nicksic defeated Scott Hansen and Ed Wlekinski 427 - 402 in an exciting 2-game match to claim championship honors in the IAA's 6th annual "Baker Doubles" bowling tournament. The suspenceful final teatered back and forth as both teams matched spares and answered strikes until Hansen and Wlekinski left consecutive ten pins late in the second game while Cleve and Nicksic both carried strong shots securing the title and the $350 top prize.

The event held at Plaza Lanes, featuring a 6-game qualifying segment followed by a match play championhsip round, attracted 35 teams. Hansen and Wlekinski's 1,420 paced all qualifiers followed by Cleve - Nicksic (1,409), Bob Kammer - Bob Kammer Jr (1,368), Bill Dills - Steve Dills (1,359), Samantha Hansen - Bill Pitchford (1,358), and Lou Cocarro - Ray Fogle jr (1,353). In one of the tightest qualifying rounds in the event's history, three teams fell within 10 pins of the final qualifying position.

Match play action began with Kammer- Kammer Jr defeating Cocarro - Fogle Jr and Hansen - Pitchford dismantling the Dills team thus setting up the tournament's most electrifying match. Tied heading into the tenth frame, Kammer and Pitchford matched strikes forcing a two-frame roll-off. Hansen and Kammer Sr converted spares setting the stage for a re-match of the heavyweight prize fighters. Kammer jr and Pitchford each struck on their first shot, however, an ill-timed ten pin sealed the fate of the Kammer combo as Pitchford continued his strike barrage vaulting his team into the semi-final match against Cleve - Nicksic. Again, this match came down to the final shot as Nicksic - Cleve advanced to the finals with a shocking 172-170 victory.

The events high game was rolled by Timm Siebor - Mike Kraushaar (290) while Ed Olszewski - John Skrunds added a fine 289. In the side action, Cleve and Nicksic defeated Mike Dellarocca and Bob Petitt for the Grand Bracket title and $400. Dellarocca and Petitt received $100 for their second place finish. Brian Betts and Kevin Michalouski rebounded and grabbed the $100 prize as loser's bracket champions. Ray Skwirtz won the Assassin bowling ball.
