Frank Katisinas has become the IAA's version of the New England
Patriots as he captured his fourth IAA golf championship in five years. The 2001, 2003,
and 2004 champion continued his impressive play with a dominating 1-over par 73 on the
difficult Palmira layout to easily capture the 2005 title. Katisinas' accelerated to a 2
shot lead with a nifty 35 on the front side, before finishing five shots better than his
nearest rivals, Mark Wilcox, Lou Vauter, and Todd Victor, all of whom fashioned
respectable 78's.
Rose Ceperich joined Katsinas as a repeat champion, capturing championship honors
amongst the ladies. Ceperich, the 2004 champion, fired a 99 to outdistance second place
finisher Nori Potesta-Sajdyk by six shots.
Other flight champions were Tony Falluca ("A" Flight) with the tournaments
second low round at 77, Tim Messman ("B" flight - 82), Mike Albanese
("C" Flight - 83), Bob Hoese ("D" Flight - 92), Frank Berzinis
("E" Flight - 92), Ron Schuitema ("F" Flight - 93), Larry Cauble
("G" Flight - 98), and John Hill ("H" Flight - 111). Bill Springer was
awarded top honors in the Senior Flight with a 81. Springer also won the Senior Flight in
2003.
In all 115 IAA golfers challenged the windy conditions September 18th at Palmira.
Closest to the pins were won by Tim Messman, Doug Robinson, Dick Donnelly, Mark Wilcox,
Greg Givens, Jeff Gregory, Ted Porter, and John Miskulin. Skins were claimed by Jim
Carson, Porter, Ike Peterson, Mike Stephans, John Houchin, Schuitema, John Weller, Wilcox,
Mike Edwards, and Tony Falluca.
Bill McFarland won the set of Hogan BH 5 Irons while John Miskulin won the Ping G2
Driver. In all, 32 players were rewarded with some nice door prizes - including nike
wedges, ping putters, and ogio golf bags.
