Frank Katsinas' 2003 victory in the IAA Championships at Aberdeen was
so dominating it left many IAA golfers in awe, and gunning for him in 2004. Katsinas,
though, was up to the challenge, carding an even par 72 to outdistance Mark Wilcox (74)
and Todd Victor (75) to claim the 2004 title contended at The Brassie Golf Club in
Chesterton Indiana. Rounding out the top five were Dale Vechey and Bill Springer with
76's. Tony Falluca, Mike Kraushaar, and John Seabrook gave chase but faded late finishing
with 77's.
Kevin Relphorde gained top honors in the "A" flight with a 78, two shots
better than veteran Melvin White. Bill Miller, taking advantage of his home course, carded
an 80 to edge Carlos Martinez to win the "B" flight. "C" flight honors
went to Bill McFarland. McFarland fired a 91 to edge Tom Bolton and Dennis Bastin by a
single stroke. Jim Sajdyk and Mike Babbitt both fired 92's to share top honors in the
"D" flight, however, in a scorecard playoff (hole #18), Sajdyk was awarded the
title, defeating Babbitt 6 to 8 on the difficult par 5. Joe Anaya was the "E"
flight champion firing an even 100.
The Ladies crowned a new champion this year ad Rose Ceperich fired a 95 to defeat two
time defending champion Jan Orlich by three strokes. Ceperich turned a four shot deficit
on the front into the three shot victory with an exceptional closing nine.
The event held September 18, 2004 attracted 79 men and 8 ladies under near perfect
conditions.
